How Moving Bin Rental Works in New Jersey

Renting reusable moving bins takes five steps: order, delivery, pack, pickup, and sanitize. No tape guns, no box-building, no cardboard mountain at the end. Here's exactly what happens at each stage — and how to get the most out of your rental week.

The five steps, in detail

From order to pickup, here's the full journey of your bins.

1

Order your package

Pick the package that matches your home size — Studio Starter (20 bins), 1–2 Bedroom (40 bins), or 3+ Bedroom Home (60 bins) — and choose a delivery date at least 2–3 days before moving day. Request bins online or call (516) 587-4336; we confirm your delivery window within one business day. Moving a studio in New Brunswick or a high-rise in Jersey City? Tell us about stairs, elevators, and parking in the order notes so we plan the drop-off.

2

We deliver to your door

On delivery day we drop off sanitized bins and dollies at your home, apartment, or office anywhere in our Central and North Jersey service area. Delivery is free, and we text you a delivery window the day before. This is a drop-off service: we set the bins down and leave, and you pack on your own with the simple instructions included. Bins arrive nested and stacked, so a 40-bin delivery takes up about as much floor space as a loveseat — easy to tuck into a hallway or garage while you pack.

Pack and move at your pace

Pack over your rental week. Bins need no tape or assembly — lids snap shut and everything stacks securely in the truck. Use the included dollies for heavy loads (books, kitchen gear). Because every bin is the same size, loading a truck or freight elevator goes faster than with a jumble of cardboard. Check our moving and packing tips for room-by-room guidance.

We pick up the empties

Once you've unpacked, stack the empty bins and schedule your free pickup online or by phone. We'll collect them from your door, apartment lobby, or leasing office — whatever works for your building. No breaking down boxes, no hauling cardboard to the curb, no dumpster runs. Most pickups take under ten minutes.

The tote: 27-gallon black-and-yellow latching bins

You're not renting mystery bins. Every order ships with the same proven tote: the heavy-duty 27-gallon black-and-yellow latching storage tote style you'll recognize from Home Depot — rigid walls, snap-shut latching lids, and a stackable shape that nests when empty and locks together when full.

Why this tote and not a cheaper one? Three reasons: the 27-gallon size hits the sweet spot between capacity and carry-ability (big enough for kitchen loads, light enough for stairs); latching lids mean nothing pops open in the truck and you'll never buy tape; and the uniform stackable shape loads trucks and freight elevators far faster than a jumble of cardboard. Every tote is inspected and sanitized between rentals, and any tote with a cracked wall or tired latch is retired on the spot.

A sample rental-week timeline

Most customers rent for one week. Here's how that week typically flows for a Saturday move.

Wednesday or Thursday — delivery. Bins arrive a few days before moving day. Start with non-essentials: books, decor, off-season clothes, the junk drawer you've been avoiding.

Friday — pack the kitchen and bedrooms. Kitchens take longest, so give them a full evening. Uniform bins make this faster than boxes: same size, every time, no tape breaks.

Saturday — moving day. Movers (or friends) love bins: they stack neatly in the truck, and the dollies handle the heavy ones. Sort bins by room so unloading is just "bedroom stack goes left."

Sunday–Tuesday — unpack. Unpack at your pace. As bins empty, nest them in a corner or hallway.

Wednesday — pickup. We collect the empties. Your move is done, and there's nothing to recycle.

Need a longer runway? Extra weeks are $1 per tote per week (example: 20 totes for 2 weeks = $95) — many customers — especially Princeton families closing on a house — take two weeks to avoid the pack-everything-in-a-panic weekend.

What to expect on delivery and pickup day

A few practical notes so both days go smoothly.

Apartment and high-rise deliveries

Moving bins are made for buildings. In Jersey City and Hoboken high-rises, we coordinate with your leasing office or concierge and can stage bins in the lobby or loading dock. Freight elevator reservations are your responsibility — book the slot before delivery day. For walk-ups, bins are lighter and easier to carry than loaded cardboard, and the dolly handles stair landings better than a hand truck.

Houses and townhomes

In the suburbs — Edison, Woodbridge, Piscataway — we typically drop bins in the garage or just inside the front door. If you won't be home, leave a note in your order and we'll place them as directed. Bins nest tightly, so even a 60-bin delivery fits in a single-car garage corner.

What we need from you

Clear a staging spot roughly the size of a loveseat, make sure someone 18+ is available (or leave placement instructions), and keep driveways and loading zones accessible. That's it — no signature marathons, no equipment to return yourself.

Pickup day

Stack empties with lids on, keep the dollies together, and we'll handle the pickup. If your building requires pickups during certain hours, tell us when you schedule and we'll fit your window.

Quick answers before you order

How far in advance should I book? A week is ideal, especially around month-end and Rutgers move-in weekends. That said, we often accommodate 2–3 day turnarounds — ask us.

What if I need more bins mid-rental? Call us and we'll drop off extras; they're prorated at $5 per bin per week.

Do I need to be home for delivery? Not necessarily — leave placement instructions in your order and we'll stage the bins as directed.
